Artist's Description

Original painting by Doug Simpson completed in 2023. Doug uses a variety of mediums in his paintings including acrylics, oils, wax, oil pastels, acrylic markers, and others as needed to achieve the painting's completion as envisioned. He rarely uses brushes, but paints with palette knives, scrapers, spreaders, and squeegees. Raised texture and multiple layers are created with paint combined with wax. Paintings done in 2023 have no descriptive names but are named numerically in Latin. Interpretation is left to the viewer.

"Duodecim23 is painted using oils, cold wax, and oil pastels. It is an expression of color, shape, line, and motion. It is painted on a cradled birch panel. The canvas is stretched on a deep sided frame. The sides are painted black to accent the front surface painting and allow it to be hung attractively without framing. Ready to hang with attached wire for easy level hanging.

With the art training and the production of a tremendous amount of work, I opened an art gallery while maintaining a full-time job in IT. This allowed me to spend my nights and weekends experimenting with various media and...
